Peace, Contentment (If Leap Year)
HEBREWS 13:20 Now the God of peace, who brought
up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood
of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord. (NASB)
It is interesting that this verse talks
powerfully about God, the Shepherd, shed blood, eternal covenants,
peace, and sheep. "Sheep," refers to us as individuals. How
convincing it is that the God of peace wants to give Himself to His
people.
God’s entire design is to bring us to the point
of inner contentment, which is a by-product of experiencing God. To
be at peace requires we receive God. God is peace, therefore to have
peace we must have God. When we receive Christ as our Savior we get
the entirety of God credited to our account. We collect from that
account as we open ourselves to Him.
PRAYER: Thank You God for providing Yourself for
me, the God of peace, power and love. I cast from my life the things
that block You out. I receive You into my mind, emotions, body and
total life. I understand that peace comes based on my relationship
with You.

Each day’s subject can be applied in all walks of life. I am

a wife to cancer. I would have lost my mind without Howard Ford’s
devotionals and his loving counsel. No matter what belief you

For years I have found Howard Ford’s daily devotionals an
inspiring way to start the day, as well as wonderful late evening
meditation. Anyone with a thirst for a deeper devotion to God and
a personal honesty to look within will benefit from his
devotionals. I share them with my wife and two teen sons. They are
thoughtful, honest, and they prick the heart yet they are always
encouraging with God as the source for the breakthrough we are
looking for. --Stuart Segall Pastor, Sedro Woolley, WA
When God is author, the words are manna and those who are
hungry press eagerly forward. With the very first reading of your
devotionals, I recognized my Shepherd’s Voice and knew I would be
fed. It was that elementary. Anything more or anything else would
have put me off. They have been precisely on target for the
hardship we’ve been experiencing the past two weeks and have
provided great comfort and some needed admonition about how to
react to the situation. Each day’s Scripture, lesson and prayer is
precisely right for the time and situation and very comforting.
It’s evident to me that the Holy Spirit is at work in this
ministry. --Bill and Sharon Jenna
I have received inspiration and revelation through the reading
and application of the Divine Truths found in Howard Ford’s daily
devotionals. Thank you for being a blessing by using your gifts
and talents to help others. --Sherrie Rainsberger
A Note To The Reader
You will find this book was written with a healthy balance
between the Bible and psychology. It has been written in a way that
is pleasing to various spiritual and religious beliefs and
denominational points of view. It has no hidden agenda nor does it
try to promote any extreme philosophy, political view, or personal
point of view. It was written with considerable input from the Holy
Spirit, therefore please read it with an openness to God so the Holy
Spirit will be able to create a healing experience designed just for
you. You may use it daily for a spiritual lift or you may spend
considerable time with each devotional and with God for as serious
recovery program.
The primary desire of the author is that each reader will improve
their relationship with God. The devotionals have a running theme (a
thread) that carries through out the 366 devotionals:
- The spirit mind is the communication center capable of
communicating with God through the Holy Spirit.
- Answers for human emotional needs can be found in God rather
than in the world.
- All humans have feelings and the devotionals touch those
feelings and provides Biblical instruction.
- Contentment is not the same as happiness and contentment can
be found with a proper relationship with God.
Definitions: The phrases, "earth mind" and "spirit mind" are used
in the book. You may better understand by knowing the author’s
definition of these two phrases:
- "Earth mind" -- The human earth mind is the part of our
thinking that is empowered or influenced by the human aspect of
life. The human aspect is that which will no longer exist or needs
to be utilized after our physical death.
- "Spirit mind" -- The spirit mind is the way humans can
communicate with God through the Holy Spirit and is also able to
communicate with one’s earth mind. Our spirit is that which God
breathed into us at the point of creation of each individual. It
also refers to that same spirit in us that receives new life when
we repent, confess sin and receive the rebirth provided by the
sacrifice of Christ.
This book is not an effort to thoroughly explain all aspects
contained in any one verse. It is not a complete commentary on the
verses used but it does give considerable insight into specific
verses. There are times when the Scripture verse is used as a
springboard to discuss the emotional experiences of humanity.
There may be many times when you will feel the devotional was
written just for you. No, the author has not been talking to your
spouse or friend.
