Planned
Parenthood’s Alan Guttmacher Institute says that
1 in 5 women having abortions are from
Evangelical churches. They also report, "At
current rates, 43% of all women will experience
abortion at least once by the time they are
forty-five years of age." These high abortion
rates mean that we have many individuals in our
churches who have experienced post-abortion
pain. Often they are afraid to identify
themselves and therefore will not come to a
crisis pregnancy center or other venue for
post-abortion Bible studies.
The One-Day
Abortion Recovery Workshop is a good
introduction to the need for post abortion
healing. Participants can include couples
involved in abortion, parents of daughters and
sons who have been involved in an abortion,
spouses, brothers and sisters, pastors,
counselors, and others who just want to know
more about post-abortion stress and how it can
be healed. Note, however, that this is not a
counselor training conference, but a healing
conference.
Included in this manual are supply lists,
checklists, forms and handouts, planning
schedule, detailed agenda, and sample speeches
with overheads for each segment (including more
than 50 MS PowerPoint slides). A CDROM contains
the PowerPoint slides, Microsoft Word versions
of the worksheets, and customizable samples of
letters, agenda, announcements, and forms.

Why Have a One-Day Recovery Workshop?
Time: Most after-abortion Bible
studies meet for several months. The
time commitment alone will prevent some
interested individuals from attending. A
one-day conference is short enough to
fit into many schedules, even as busy as
we all are.
Lack of Information: Some
people may not know whether or not they
would be interested in a longer
after-abortion Bible study, so the
one-day experience is an opportunity to
whet their appetites for a longer
program.
Low Level of Involvement: A
one-day healing conference may be all
that is needed for someone who has had
only a low or medium level of
involvement in an abortion. This
category includes people who "just"
drove a friend to the abortion clinic,
or had some other indirect involvement.
Beginning the Healing Journey:
A one-day recovery workshop is also a
practical way for people to receive some
immediate help if a post-abortion Bible
study doesn't begin meeting in the next
few weeks. They can take the first steps
in their journey toward health while
awaiting the start of the longer
program.

Here are just a few of the comments
we've received from attendees of our
One-Day Abortion Recovery Workshops:
- "Very full of information. It
was neat and touching to see that
men hurt also - I never realized
that abortion affects them just as
much as it affects women."
- "As a volunteer counselor I
learned many valuable statistics and
wonderful resources to better equip
me. Thanks for a wonderful day.
Well-informed speakers and dynamic,
sensitive group leaders."
- "Presented a lot of useful
information. This is good to give
women a "taste" of what a full Bible
study would teach."
- "Thank you for the opportunity
to ask my child to forgive me. This
conference was an amazingly healing
opportunity for me."
- "Excellent conference! It
provided healing for those who had
preborn children as well as those
who did not."
- "This conference encompassed
more than I expected. I have not
been through an abortion, but I
learned a lot from the material
presented."
- "This conference was very
informative and everyone was
friendly and open. What a marvelous
opportunity."
- "I pray my wife will someday
attend a similar memorial service or
receive healing."
